Biography
Maj Sammy Leos is the Surgical Services Flight Commander, 673d Surgical Operations Squadron, JB Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. He leads a flight of surgeons, nurses, technicians, and administrative staff to support 24/7 on-call surgical capabilities. As a Surgical Physician Assistant, he is responsible for performing surgical assessments, devising treatment strategies, performing minor surgical procedures, and assisting in the operating room.
The major earned his Master of Health Science degree at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, Oklahoma City in November 2013. He was commissioned through Commissioned Officer School in February 2014. Prior to his current position, he was stationed at Misawa AB, Japan where he served as the Surgical Services Flight Commander. Prior to this assignment he served as a surgical Physician Assistant on the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Team at Travis AFB, California. Prior to this assignment he was stationed at JB San Antonio-Lackland, Texas where he completed a Doctor of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies including original research, 16 surgical/critical care rotations, and acquiring over 200 hours in the operating room. Before earning his doctorate, he was stationed at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico where he served as a Family Health Physician Assistant, responsible for delivering comprehensive healthcare to over 1,500 enrolled beneficiaries.
